As friend of mine (who is also a teacher) brought my attention to an online classroom management resource, ClassDojo. Although it is aimed at primary schools, it could work in secondary schools for Junior Cycle classes.
Easy to set up and register, each student is given profile characters called Avatars. Good and bad behavior is monitored and a reward system is automatically tracked.
Yes this does sound childish and yes it is suited for students in primary schools, however isn’t it worth a try. There is a major advantage to this website as, parents and students can also log in and view behavior records. Wouldn’t this make parent-teacher meetings a lot easier if parents had access to their child’s behavior records at any time.
So here it is, ClassDojo, have fun exploring and make sure to pass it on to other primary school teachers!
